Men and women share common concerns of skin irregularities of the face. Besides topical and lifestyle treatments, there are other tools that can completely change the facial canvas. Lasers have the ability to offer a non invasive methods that assist in turning over dead or damaged skin cells. Technological advancement of lasers allows common skin abnormalities like acne scars, burn marks, blemishes, fine lines, and hyperpigmentation to be removed and replaced with brand new skin cells.

How does it work?

Laser resurfacing is a procedure that uses a laser to improve the appearance of skin by removing layers of skin. Common resurfacing lasers include:

  • Carbon dioxide (CO2): used to treat wrinkles, scars, warts
  • Erbium: used to remove superficial and moderately deep lines and wrinkles on the face, hands, neck and chest

Laser skin resurfacing and tightening is safe for a variety of patients and ages and for both men and women. Our skin experts will be able to determine whether laser skin resurfacing is the best option for you.

Is it painful?

ActivMD Derm Spa makes it a priority to keep our clients as comfortable as possible. However, laser treatments such as ablatives can be uncomfortable both during and after the procedure. It’s realistic to expect some discomfort and a little inconvenience in the first 2 weeks. Your nurse will come up with a post-care plan designed for you and is here to answer any questions you have along the way. Each individual’s treatment level may vary, so the length and severity of downtime will vary too.

Luckily, the visual effects of treatment appear more severe than they feel in most cases. You will have instructions for soothing the skin and taking over-the-counter medication, if needed, during the first week. People describe the sensation as that of a sunburn.

It’s essential for patients to avoid sun exposure during skin resurfacing recovery. New skin can be easily damaged by the sun and you are at a heightened risk of hyperpigmentation. Some patients choose to have their laser treatments in the winter months where sun exposure is at a minimum and there are less social activities to miss out on.

Even when a cosmetic treatment is uncomfortable, many people accept the downtime and inconvenience as worthwhile trade-offs for impressive results. Skin resurfacing laser treatments offer a shorter recovery period and minimal side effects, but patients can anticipate redness that comes with healing process. Some swelling is expected in the first week, but will go away quickly.

Skin resurfacing lasers can improve the following:

  • sun damage, fine lines, moderate wrinkles, and age spots
